Heidelberg Materials is looking for an Environmental Technician & Quality Control person to work at the Jamesville, NY location. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager.

Did you like to collect and examine rocks when you were a kid? Would you like to be instrumental in guaranteeing product quality? Heidelberg Materials is seeking an Environmental Technician/Quality Control. This position is responsible for conducting aggregate quality control tests and testing aggregate products on a daily basis to ensure the products meet DOT standards as well as inspecting, screening and testing Clean Construction Demolition Debris (CCDD).

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO:

  • Perform quality control tests on aggregate products.

  • Validate that the proper components and materials are used.

  • Sample and test raw materials for specification compliance.

  • Perform QC tests for unit weight, temperature, and any other necessary test.

  • Maintain necessary documentation of the testing procedure and results.

  • Act as a customer service facilitator for the plant employees and customers as required.

  • Prepare documentation for customers, contractors, and state agencies certifying the product quality.

  • Assist Plant Managers with other duties such as assessing stockpile inventory.

  • Assure compliance with environmental laws and regulations governing Clean Construction Demolition Debris and Clean Soils fill programs.

  • Perform soil sampling protocol.

  • Operate basic environmental field monitoring test equipment such as a photoionization detector to measure VOC’s.

  • Coordinate and supervise the clean fill programs at the quarry and maintain documentation.

  • Maintain environmental compliance over site by documenting air and water qualities at the plant level.

  • Ensure compliance requirements are met through organizational and procedural measures including implementation of Group guidelines, performing training, monitoring compliance etc.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Solid computer skills and MS Excel experience preferred.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Demonstrated basic math skills.

  • Strong communication skills to interact with customers, contractors, agency personnel and plant personnel.

  • IDOT Certification preferred. Must be willing and able to pass the certification. if it is not currently held. We will train the right candidate to obtain the certification.

  • Work overtime as needed. During the construction season, the workweek may run 5 to 6 days / 45 to 65 hours per week.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Strong attention to detail and record keeping.

  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds over 100 feet on a regular basis.

  • Willingness to work in a heavy industrial type environment.

  • Role operates in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, elevated noise levels, and dusty conditions
